Credits and currencies explained

What a credit is, what a currency does, and the three environment-wide switches.

What are credits? draft

A credit entitles you to one assessment: one participant in a campaign. Credits have no monetary value in the platform. What a client pays for them is handled outside Esperto.

Every credit belongs to a currency. The currency determines which variants the credit may be used for; see What is a currency?.

Credits are always held in a wallet:

  • the system wallet, where new credits arrive;
  • the wallet of a user group, which the group can divide among its members;
  • the wallet of a user.

Every creation and every transfer is recorded; see The transaction log.

What is a currency? draft

A currency is a type of credit. You link a currency to one or more variants; a credit in that currency can only be used for those variants.

Variants of the same value may share one currency. Pathfinder and Pathfinder v2.5, for example, can fall under one currency. Variants priced differently each get their own currency. That way, a balance bought for a cheaper assessment cannot be spent on a more expensive one.

You set up a currency once, under System › Credits › Settings. See Creating a currency.

The credit settings draft

Under System › Credits › Settings, the Config panel has three switches. They apply to the whole environment.

Switch What it does
Enable User-to-User transactions Users may transfer their own credits to other users.
Enable User-group wallets User groups can have their own wallet with credits.
Enable the use of user-group-credits by users A user may use their group's credits when their own balance is insufficient.

A change is saved immediately.
